3D NBA Shot Chart

In celebration of the NBA playoffs (which has been one of the best/most entertaining playoffs of the past few years), i thought you guys should check this out. Pretty self-explanitory, it's a spatial visualization of all the shots taken during the 2007-2008 regular season:

didn't realize the corner three ball was such a popular shot...but i guess it makes sense....as a basketball player I never really liked the corner shot...but maybe it was just me

yea man, i feel like the corner shot never allowed me to get that lucky backboard bounce or something that would help the ball make its way to the hoop. but with nba shooters, they are probably all so accurate they dont need it.

also the corner is 22 feet from the hoop while the rest of the line is about 23.75 feet away..

i think the reason the corners are so popular is b.c it's the shot that opens up on a drive and kick. since teams love the help d, the defender helps and tries to poke the ball out, leaving his man open in the corner. it's the two spots past the three point line that get the most wide open looks. it's also the end of the chain in swing situations.

awesome graphic.
