That Feeling- ion, Aatif, Didz [Prod. Aatif]
This is a very special post.
Over the summer, three of my best friends collaborated and created an amazing hip-hop song. Every verse and lyric dives deep into their respective personal lives and thoughts. The song touches on emotional and confusing topics in life such as: losing a loved-one, partying and the guilty feeling that follows, relationships, travel, homesickness, drug-use, religion (or lack thereof), music, hope, sex, regrets, doubts, temptation, family struggles, and much more.
As you can probably tell by the long list, this is an extremely ambitious project that took a lot of time, thought, and work by each individual involved.
Perhaps I'm biased, but the final product accomplishes the near-impossible and provides a means for the listener to reflect on "That Feeling" everyone has experienced at one point in their lives but has struggled understanding. This song is three completely different people, from even more-different upbringings, coming together to give their take on what that abstract feeling means to them. Amazing.
Production Notes: Aatif sampled "The Gaudy Side of Town" by Gayngs for this track. The Minneapolis band is composed of a variety of Midwestern musicians including Ryan Olson, Zack Coulter and Adam Hurlburt (of Solid Gold), and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver).
Feel free to comment on this song in the comment section. Please encourage these dudes to make more music too! I know I would listen to anything they create. Read more!

Drake - "Take Care" Album Artwork

"Feels like it's been so long. Is life moving so fast in this generation that when we desire something it begins to move in slow motion? Are we just used to getting what we want right away? Or do we require one another to feel right about all that is going on around us? Maybe our anticipation is justified by the fact that we genuinely cannot wait to share a moment again? Either way, your life and mine are scheduled to meet on October 24...I wouldn't miss it for the world.
See you soon.
Drake"
Facebook Introduces "Timeline"
"Facebook has just announced a new version of its profile called the Timeline at the f8 developer conference. The new layout is meant to be a central location for your stories, apps, and for you to express who you are. Mark Zuckerberg explained it as a way to “share the story of your life on a single page.”

Don't Wuwwy!: Kendrick Lamar Live in DC from DC to BC / The Great Progression on Vimeo.
I usually stray away from posting concert footage because it's usually crappy quality. However, here's a nice HD video of Kdot performing in the nations capitol. His concerts look buck! He's definitely one of my personal Top 3 break-out artists of '11. Get familiar, if you haven't already. #Section.80 still gets major play on my iPod. Read more!
Honey Bunny- Girls
I downloaded the new Girls album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, because it was named BNM on pitchfork. I've been pleased with the album, it reminds me a bit of Arcade Fire, but maybe a little more upbeat and uptempo. Anyways, here's there single and video. A fun, fast-paced, uplifting song about people loving each other for who they are and not what they look like. Good message. Fun song too. Read more!

So the dude that is Entourage's musical supervisor. HTMIIA is that one show that Cudi appears in from time to time about hipsters hustling around Brooklyn and such. The mixtape is cool because while it has hip-hop there are a lot of other cool genres that these two choose songs from. Stream it on their FB page.

Places I Haven't Been (North America)

New work by artist Evan Drolet Cook. Proacktive has featured Cook's work in the past, namely a low budget film titled "Wasted On the Young," which also was referenced as "VHS Feature" for multiple posts before the title of the movie was declared.
This is very cool piece in my opinion. A common reaction to a piece like this are the thoughts "well, I could have done that," or "it doesn't really seem like art to me," but the thing that sets artists apart is the idea. Yeah, everyone could have sat down and pushed pins into a map but who would have thought to do it?
Bringing creativity to a new level in my own artwork is something I have been focusing on, but I often find myself struggling with it. I see painting like "Dream Caused By the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate" by Salvador Dali shown below, and the creativity honestly blows my mind. Technical abilities are one thing, but creating images and work that has never been done, or even imagined before is what really intrigues me. Like look at the elephant in the background...wtf? lol

Childish Gambino - "Bonfire"

Goodbye Netflix. Hello Qwikster?
I'm just as confused as you are. Here's the bit...
Netflix is dead; long live Netflix. That’s the message from CEO Reed Hastings, who announced in a blog post tonight that Netflix’s DVD-by-mail business will be split off and renamed “Qwikster” in “a few weeks,” while Netflix will focus on streaming video. Hastings says the move is required to clearly delineate the DVD business from the streaming business, which will both reduce consumer confusion and allow each company to focus on the different cost structures and marketing of its particular business. Although Hastings is emphatic in saying Qwikster will be the same DVD service with a different name, the split itself is total: Netflix and Qwikster will maintain separate user accounts with separate movie ratings, and they’ll each bill users independently. Qwikster will also have its own CEO, ex-Netflix exec Andy Rendich.
Hastings says Netflix is set to announce some “substantial” additions to its streaming catalog after the transition, while Qwikster will now offer Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 games for an additional fee “similar” to the existing Blu-ray upgrade fee. Whatever the disc, the iconic red envelopes will remain, but they’ll now bear the Qwikster logo. That’s the end of an era — and with the proven DVD business now independent, it’s up to Reed Hastings and Netflix to prove that streaming can be an equal success. Check a video introduction to Qwikster after the break.

Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne turns into the soundtrack for your next rave with Mark The Throne, a complete dance-minded re-imagining of rappers’ badass beats. LA-based duo Market Price remixed every song on the LP, added electro and dubstep sounds while mostly doing away with any of Jay or Yeezy’s verses. Remembering 9/11
I didn't really know how to "remember" 9/11 properly. It's still such a surreal and confusing tragedy to me, that I have trouble knowing the proper way to cope with the attacks.
Anyways, up top is a very cool photo of the light beacons that were lit yesterday during 9/11/11.
Down low, is a 60 minutes episode I watched last night, that talks about the lasting effects that the responders undergo as they try their best to move on from 9/11. While the other part looks at the international effects the day had, as Lara Logan conducts an in-depth interview with a famous US interrogator that broke a lot of information from Al Qeada. Both stories were very well-done in my opinion.

The Kick- XV
Honestly, one of the better tracks I have heard so far in 2011. This song is monster on so many levels. The Inception theme, the deep, introspective lyrics, the uplifting chorus, and just the overall production [prod. DJ Tech-Neek] instantly puts this track high on the list for best song of the year... What are your thoughts?

Rhythm N' Ramen- Ellis Cleve Richardson (MIXTAPE)
The second official mixtape from up-and-coming Twin Cities artist Ellis Cleve Richardson. Richardson is a uber-talented artist that has been making music throughout his whole life. The 21-year-old musician has the rare ability to both sing and rap and is able to blur the lines between Hip-Hop and R&B, something that is rare and different skill from most other popular urban artists.
Richardson's latest mixtape results in a unique and exciting listening experience that few artists in today's musical landscape can provide.Rhythm N' Ramen touches on topics ranging from college, motivation, identifying with different racial cultures and norms, the challenges and joys of love in today's world, and much much more.
While this tape is serious and emotional, there is a hint of humor mixed throughout the tape that feels very authentic and original (especially if you know Ellis personally). The mixtape also features some beautiful covers of today's hottest songs but is mostly original work done by Ellis himself. All in all, this mixtape is a must for everyone's iTunes library.

One Day It'll All Make Sense - Common (Autobiography)
In One Day It’ll All Make Sense, Common holds nothing back. He tells what it was like for a boy with big dreams growing up on the South Side of Chicago. He reveals how he almost quit rapping after his first album, Can I Borrow a Dollar?, sold only two thousand copies. He recounts his rise to stardom, giving a behind-the-scenes look into the recording studios, concerts, movie sets, and after-parties of a hip-hop celebrity and movie star. He reflects on his controversial invitation to perform at the White House, a story that grabbed international headlines. And he talks about the challenges of balancing fame, love, and fatherhood.
Knowing that school will begin devouring my free time in a few days, and mostly because I'm not a huge fan of Common's music, I don't plan on reading this. I'd rather read Decoded (pacman hook a bro up). Read more!
